NHFFE Endorsed Candidates Are Overwhelmingly Elected !

November 3, 2010

NASHUA, NH – NH Families for Education is delighted to announce that all, but one, of the anti-family House Education Committee (HEC) members were successfully routed in yesterday’s election.  Only Rep. Rick Ladd (R-Grafton 5) remains and his votes will be carefully monitored during the upcoming session

Eight very troublesome House Education Committee members, including Chair Rep. Emma Rous (D-Strafford 07) and Rep. Judith Day (D-Rockingham 13) shrewdly decided not to run for re-election, sparing voters the effort required to defeat them.   Rep. Kim Casey (D-Rockingham 11) and Rep. Rachel Burke (D- Strafford 03) were not as prudent and their re-election attempts were soundly defeated.

Rep. Casey was added to the House Education Committee late in the session to defeat HB 1580 and any reconsideration of that measure, which recognized the educational right of families.  Rep. Joel Winters (D-Hillsborough 17), who spoke in favor of HB 1580 but then cut a deal with Rep. Casey to oppose reconsideration of the measure, was also defeated yesterday.

Overall, 87% of the candidates endorsed by NH Families for Education were elected to office by voters.
